Liberty or Death has long been a cornerstone of Helsinki’s cocktail scene, pairing New York grit with Finnish precision. When the bar set out to renovate after 12 years, the goal was clear: modernize the space while keeping its raw, urban character alive.
Working with bar manager Julia Kokki and interior architects Koko3, Behind Bars delivered a technical yet atmospheric solution. At the heart of the venue now sits a massive custom Tayēr station designed for two bartenders, with an integrated guest top in a durable polivibre finish. The bar’s split-level floor introduced engineering challenges but we created a seamless step solution that preserves both ergonomics and flow.
Behind the station, a custom-built neutral storage unit and a large draft system cabinet keep the backline organized, with perforated doors to house beer equipment discreetly. Every detail was tuned to balance Liberty or Death’s bold identity with the practical demands of daily service. The result is a space that honors the bar’s heritage while giving its team the tools to continue shaping Finland’s cocktail culture.

We wanted a bar that feels like us. Functional, modern, and true to Liberty or Death’s spirit.
